# Silences

> Stop notifications during maintenance or for a known problem, without hiding incidents

Source: https://www.apitraffic.io/docs/alerts/silences

A silence stops notifications for a while. Incidents still open and still show on the Incidents page; nobody is notified about them.

Manage silences in **Account → Alerts → Silences**.

## Snoozing one incident

On an incident, click **Snooze 1 hour**, **Snooze 4 hours** or **Snooze 24 hours**. This silences that incident's alerts only.

## Silencing by severity or environment

1. Click **New silence**.
2. Choose a **Severity**, one or more **Environments**, or both. A silence must say what it silences.
3. Choose how long it lasts in **For**, and say **Why**. Your team sees the reason.
4. Click **Silence**.

Members can silence for up to 24 hours. Owners and admins can silence for longer, up to 30 days.

## Ending a silence

Click **End now** on an active or scheduled silence. Turn on **Show ended silences** to see past ones.

## What silences don't stop

- Incidents and alerts are still recorded and shown.
- The alert that says [alerts can't reach anyone](https://www.apitraffic.io/docs/alerts#when-alerts-cant-reach-anyone) is never silenced.
